A digipak is an alternative and modern approach to CD/DVD packaging; they are usually made of thick cardboard and functions to include more information on the band/artist in the form of a small stapled booklet that is inserted into the pocket of the digipak. They usually come with minimum four panels that fold outwards and possibly include song lyrics, track list, images of the artist/band or any additional information such as behind the scenes of filming, tour pictures and thank you's to people involved in the production of the album.
Digipaks function to give additional information about the artist/band to the fans and to appeal to the target audience that the artist is aiming at. This is illustrated through colour and font design which reflects the artists personality, style and the genre of music. Digipaks also allow the possibility of including more than one disc, possibly in the form of DVD extras or additional recordings of the band or artist live in concert, behind the stage of filming for a music video or any other backstage information.
