With new age technology allowing us to download music onto most of our electronic devices, the popularity of the 'CD' is in inevitable decline. However CD covers are still used and Digipak's are still being produced and sold.
What is a Digipak?
Digipak's are a modern approach to CD/DVD packaging, usually made of cardboard. They allow the possibility of including more information about the artist, more music, and perhaps even DVD extra's or additional recordings. Digipaks allow us to gain more information on the artist themselves, and create a stronger more personal connection between the artist and audience. Through the use images, colours, messages and layouts we can get to know the artist more personally. Digipaks may also give the fans bonus features, which would be desirable for the 'diehard' fans.
What should be included in a Digipak?
-Album name
-Artist name
-Track List
-Production information
-A main image, usually of the artist
Other possible additions to the Digipak
-Acknowledgements/messages from the artist
-A booklet containing song lyrics
-Bonus DVD features
-Other unimportant but interesting information about the artist
What a Digipak should look like
Digipaks should have a minimum of 4 panels, two inside and the front and back of the cover. The front outside is especially important as it contributes to the sale of the product. The front cover should contain a main image, the album name and the artist name, other things may be included such as album ratings. The back cover should have production information, ie: copyright and distribution details, and a track list. A maximum of two fonts should be used generally when creating a Digipak.
